Balance bikes are one of the most affordable ways to get your child ready to ride a pedal bike. They're also a great way for kids to learn balance, control, and steering, while having fun.

Balance bikes arebikes without pedals, so they only move forward when you steer. Their handlebars are curved, and your child will lean forward and steer the bike with their arms, while their feet stay in contact with the ground, which helps them stay stable.

Balance bikes are sized according to your child's age. For kids 2-3 years old, we recommend a bike with a 20-inch frame. For kids 4-5 years old, we recommend a bike with a 24-inch frame. For kids 6-7 years old, we recommend a bike with a 28-inch frame.

Balance bikes are an invaluable tool, as kids progress from balance bikes to pedal bikes. In fact, many children ride balance bikes for years, before learning to ride a pedal bike.

Our testers evaluate balance bikes for ease-of-use, safety, durability, and overall performance. Our top pick is the Schwinn Balance Bike, which has received excellent reviews on Amazon.

Banana Bike LT - Lightweight Balance Bike for 2, 3 & 4 Year Olds - Kids Bike Without Pedals for Training Equilibrium - Toys for Toddlers

Banana Bike LT

by Banana Bike

NEW MODEL - The new LT Version 4 is better and lighter than ever. With new premium ultra-comfy, durable seat, new extra safe grips with wide cushioned bar-ends, quick release clamp for easy seat adjustment, new ultra-lightweight puncture-proof EVA wheels with improved traction, new axle setup for faster spinning durable bearings, new unique twin bearing headset for ultra-smooth steering, safe child-proof handlebar locking hex clamp, new more environmentally friendly, robust powder coated paint.

We were pleasantly surprised by how much our 3-year-old son liked the Banana Bike LT. The first thing we noticed was its lightweight frame, which steadies the bike better than many kids' bikes we've tried. The bike also has a low centre of gravity, which makes it easier for little kids to balance, and the step-through design makes it easy to mount and dismount. The bike's low seat height is also a big plus, as it makes the bike more forgiving, and our son loved that he could adjust the bike's seat height to accommodate his growing frame. The bike's main downside is the lack of a brake, but our son didn't mind, and we still used it for rides around the patio, the park and for indoor training. Overall, the Banana Bike LT was a decent choice, but it's best suited for kids up to age 5, and even then, it's probably better-suited to kids who are just starting to get the hang of biking.
