If you're looking to test electronic circuits or components, a digital oscilloscope (DSO) is an invaluable tool. A DSO is a digital instrument that traces electrical signals, such as audio or video, over time. Most DSOs have a built-in display, but there are also models that include a powerful computer.

A DSO is an invaluable tool because it allows you to view an electrical signal over time, allowing you to see the effects of changing components. For example, a DSO allows you to view an electrical signal over time, which allows you to see the effects of changing components. A DSO is also useful for troubleshooting electronic circuits. If you're looking for a budget oscilloscope that can perform basic digital storage test, the Hantek DSO5202P is a great option. The instrument features a wide range of inputs for connecting a range of devices, and it also has digital storage test capability, so it's ideal if you're just starting out with digital storage testing. It has a decent number of channels, so it's a good option for lab use, and it also includes USB capture and simultaneous dual display capability, which is useful for debugging. The instrument's display is sharp and bright, and it offers good visibility in bright ambient light. The DSO5202P's display resolution is only 200kS/s, which is low by today's standards, but it's suitable for basic digital storage testing, and it's plenty fast for most hobbyist purposes. The instrument's analog bandwidth is 120MHz, which is on the low side for a budget oscilloscope, but it's adequate enough for digital storage testing. The instrument's probes are good quality, but they aren't as sharp or as adjustable as our top pick. The instrument's sample rate is 1 GSample/s, which is fast enough for basic digital storage testing. The instrument's memory is 6000 samples. The instrument's trigger settings are poor, and the instrument's triggering sensitivity is mediocre. The instrument's trigger delay is too long, and the oscilloscope's trigger time is too slow. The instrument's measurement accuracy is mediocre. The instrument's measurement resolution is mediocre. The instrument's measurement range is mediocre. The instrument's backlight is too dim. The instrument's auto measurement function doesn't work. The instrument's input impedance is mediocre.

RIGOL DS1102Z-E 100 MHz Digital Oscilloscope with 2 Analog Channels. Serial Decode Included

RIGOL DS1102Z-E 100 MHz Digital Oscilloscope 2 with Analog Channels. Serial Decode Included

by RIGOL

Real-time hardware waveform recording and playback functions; up to 60,000 frames of a waveform can be recorded

The RIGOL DS1102Z-E oscilloscope is more versatile than the DS1102Z, but it lacks some of the higher-end features found in more expensive scopes, such as automatic triggering, slow-motion and video capture, and USB connectivity. Still, the DS1102Z-E is good enough for basic troubleshooting, debugging, and circuit design, and it's one of the cheapest oscilloscopes with a 100 MHz bandwidth. It's slow, though, with 30,000 wfms/s max waveform capture rate, and with a 1 GSa/s real-time sample rate, it's not best suited for high-speed, real-time applications. It has 2 analog channels, which can handle up to 24 Mpts of data. The display is 256-level intensity graded color, which is nice, but it's slow to update, and the display resolution is only 8 bits. The DS1102Z-E comes with a serial decode unit, and an additional serial decode unit (DS1102Z-D) is available for $25. The DS1102Z-D adds a 2-GHz bandwidth, real-time sampling rate of 20 GSa/s, and additional serial decode channels.
