Perfect for STEM education. Learn shapes, colors and how to build from 2D to 3D!
The Magformers Basic Set is a really affordable introduction to magnetic building for kids ages 3 and up. It's suitable for kids as young as 3, but for younger kids, older siblings can lend a hand to learn how to build with the set. The set comes with 62 pieces, including 20 triangles, 30 squares, and 12 pentagons, as well as a 30-page idea booklet in eight different colors, including blue, pink, green, orange, yellow, purple, brown, and gray. The booklet walks kids through how to build a house, a mailbox, and more, as well as includes ideas for bigger projects. The set comes with two wooden tiles, one red and one yellow, which serve as a guide for the magnets. The magnets are easy for kids to handle, and are easy to attach and remove. The wooden tiles are thick, sturdy, and magnetic, so kids can build with them without worrying that they will break. The set itself is a decent size, and is perfect for kids ages 3 and up. It's easy enough for kids to build on their own, but older kids can help younger kids to build more complicated structures. The set retails for around $15, but you can find it online for around $10.
2012 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Winner.
The Magformers Creator Carnival Set comes with 46 pieces and 12 accessories, including 24 square tiles, 12 triangles, 2 hexagons, and 8 accessories. The set is fully compatible with all Magformers building blocks and extensions, and with most other magnetic building sets as well. The set is geared toward children ages 5 and up, but younger children may enjoy the set as well, so long as they have the physical dexterity and attention required to use the set. The set also comes with 4 pages of assembly instructions, but the instructions aren't very detailed. The set comes with 4 large metal storage trays, and all the pieces are stored neatly in the trays. The pieces are quite small, but they're not too small for younger children. The set was easy to assemble, and we didn't have any issues with the pieces coming apart. The magnets are very strong and the tiles, triangles, and squares adhere well to each other. The pieces appealed most to my son, who is 4 1/2 years old. The pieces are colorful and lots of fun, and he's enjoyed building many of the sets and accessories included in the set.

The case has wheels and a handle, so kids can take their creativity on the go. Magformers toys also feature magnetic pieces, so your child can use the pieces to build anything they want. The tiles are slightly bigger than cubes, so kids can build more intricate structures. Magformers tiles are very sturdy, and they don't break easily. The toys are brightly colored, and the magnets are very strong, so the pieces don't come apart easily. Magformers tiles are magnetic, so kids can build structures with both magnets and without magnets. Kids can use Magformers to build everything from cars and birds to robots and towers, and they can use the tiles with other toys, such as Tegu blocks, Lincoln Logs and K'Nex, to build all sorts of cool structures. The Magformers set comes with 50 pieces, and kids can add pieces to the set as they get more creative. This is a great toy for kids who are 3 to 9 years old.
Ages 3 years and up. 62 pieces total: 20 triangles, 22 squares, 14 isosceles triangles, 4 diamonds, 2 trapezoids.
The Magformers Designer Set is a lot of fun for adults and children alike. The 62-piece set includes 5 geometric shape tiles, 14 isosceles triangles, 20 equilateral triangles, 22 squares, 2 trapezoids and 4 diamonds. The shapes lock together magnetically, so you can construct buildings, houses or whatever else your imagination can conjure up. The set is educational, too, as kids will develop their color recognition and shape recognition skills as they start building and turning these shapes into 2D and 3D structures. The tiles also encourage kids to develop fine motor skills as they manipulate the magnets and connect the pieces. The set comes with a booklet that features step-by-step instructions for building various structures, along with ideas for different types of structures kids can build. The booklet also lists all the shapes included in the set, so kids can start building right away. The set is a great value, too, as it's cheaper than some of the other sets we tested, and it includes the booklet, so kids can start constructing right away. The downside is that the tiles can be a bit hard to handle, and they do require some adult supervision, since kids don't build the structures until the tiles lock together.

The Magformers Inspire Set is a great starter kit for kids who want to try building with magnetic tiles. It has enough pieces for 10 kids to build things, and the instruction booklet includes 17 step-by-step instructions for building various configurations, including a mini tower, a pyramid, and a 4-sided square. The included LED lights are a nice bonus, though they're only useful with one tile at a time. The tiles are magnetic, so they're easy to attach to each other, and they can be put together again, so they're good for older kids who want to build bigger structures. The tiles are bright, colorful, and smooth, so kids won't have any problems building with them. They build well, and they don't fall apart, even after hours of use. The tiles are slightly hard to maneuver, and they can be noisy when they snap together, but kids will enjoy building with them.
The award-winning design and construction of Magformers helps to explore and develop children's creativity. At the core of the company, is the concept of 3D Brain Training which helps children to develop comprehensive three-dimensional thinking through play. Children can use basic Magformers geometric shapes to create 2D flat plans (known as nets), but also 3D figures. Its very easy to lay Magformers flat, forming a mathematical net, and pull them up to form 3D towers, cubes and other shapes.
Magformers are incredible toys. The pieces snap together easily and make for hours of fun, and because they attach magnetically, they never come apart. They're great for kids 3 and up, and they're perfect for the little engineer or architect in your family. The Magformers set we tested, the 30-in-1 Amazing Police and Rescue Set, has 30 different models, including two police officers, a firefighter, a police car, a fire truck, an ambulance, a helicopter, a police car, and a street sign. The pieces snap together easily to make dozens of different models, and because the pieces attach magnetically, they never come apart. The pieces are also sturdy, so kids aren't likely to get hurt if they lose them. The set we tested also includes two characters that kids can pose and (with a little parental help) build. The set has a simple, intuitive design, and it's very easy for kids to build totally different models without instructions. Ultimately, Magformers is imaginative, educational, and fun.
